Luxoflux was started in January 1997 by a couple of game veterans, Adrian Stephens and Peter Morawiec. Headquartered in Santa Monica, California, the first Luxoflux game, Vigilante 8, was completed by early 1998 with a final staff of five people and published by Activision. Its success led to a port of Vigilante 8 to the Nintendo 64 and the development of a sequel on Playstation, Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast. Each port was developed entirely internally with Luxoflux's small crew. Luxoflux was originally going to be called "Alpha Channel," which was later found to already be in use. "Luxoflux" was the result of mixing random syllables on a white board, and later justified as meaning "movement of light."
Luxoflux was acquired by Activision in October 2002, while developing "True Crime® : Streets of L.A.® " and is now comprised of over eighty people. If you are interested in learning more about career opportunities at Luxoflux, please visit the Jobs page.
